What is Pilates?
Pilates consists of strength and mobility based exercises, designed to teach and improve movement patterns, integrating the mind and body to improve muscle control and balance. It involves attention to detail and concentration to obtain efficient movement patterns.
Pilates encourages you to think about the order that muscles are switched on to obtain efficient movement patterns. These patterns are commonly disrupted by muscular weakness.
Muscular weakness can arise from poor postural habits, occupational tasks or postures, sport, medical conditions/pathologies or injury. A muscular weakness can lead to compensation, resulting in muscular imbalances with an end result of joint instability or injury.
