Move more often, not just when you exercise
If you really think about it, you move for such a small part of the day. You can’t make up for lazy habits by exercising 45 minutes a couple of days a week. Is it better than nothing? That depends; do you want to look better? Or look, feel and move better?
Take the stairs and walk instead of driving where possible. Be organised instead of blaming inconvenience and take every opportunity to move!
Drink more water
Water makes up about 60% of the body. When dehydrated, your nervous system only survives It cannot thrive. Improving your body is thriving. All body systems function more efficiently. This means, more energy, better sleep, quicker weight loss, better muscle gain.
So how much should you drink? More than you are now! It is recommended to drink 8 glasses or 2 litres of water a day, but start with stopping or reducing the intake of juices, soft drink and coffees and replace with H2O. See how you feel. You may be surprised!
Take power naps
Yes, take a nap! A quick 15-minute power nap will help kick-start your brain and body. Set a nice alarm in your phone and go. It will take practice but even if you don’t fall asleep and relax for a few minutes from the daily chaos; it is well worth the effort.
If it comes in a box, don’t eat it
Nutrition is the key to not only longevity, but also quality of life. Convenience and cost is again the argument. I challenge you to write out your meals for the week and shop the ingredients for your meals only. You should only take from the edges of the shop, as the aisles are where the processed, innutritious food is found. It may surprise you how easy and cost effective it is. You can’t control everything in your life, but you can control what you put in your body.
Laugh and Smile More
Did you know you feel less pain when you are happy? When you start to laugh, it doesn’t just lighten your mental load, but also makes some changes in your body. Laughter can:
– Stimulate many organs by enhances oxygen uptake and increasing the release of happy hormones (endorphin)
– Stimulate circulation to decrease physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes.
– Boost the immune system
– Protect the heart by improving the function of blood vessels and increase blood flow
